New Website Design is Live

The new website launched last night to little fanfare, but I’m really excited. Goodbye old free template, hello bespoke Dirt and Rust design! This redesign is more than just a change, it’s a sign of where my business is headed. A sign it’s “grown up”.

There are a few obvious features I need to add (website search is one!) and a bunch of Portfolio items, but beyond that the site is exactly how I designed it. Check out the navigation – it’s based on the Golden Ratio, the fractal pattern found in nature, and it’s set up according to hierarchy. The point of this site is seen visually in the navigation.

Dirt and Rust is all about usability, I like to ask the question when starting any job: “What is the primary goal of this website”. The answer to this question drives the entire process which is to make websites more usable for human beings.

We all want to sell more, market more, but having the guts to make a choice about your website’s purpose can make all the difference.

It’s surprising shocking how many websites don’t consider this. It’s a constant process and this isn’t a negative thing; you just have to be honest about it, and I try to be. That’s why I welcome feedback and cast my ego aside about design.

This new design attempts to walk the walk and talk the talk.

I’m looking forward to expanding on this new design and adding content that makes what I do self-explanatory. That’s going to take some time, but that’s expected. I’m good with that.
